BETWEEN TUSCAN MAREMMA AND COSTA DEGLI ETRUSCHI
Tenuta Santa Trice is lying in the midst of the hills outside the village of Riotorto, part of the municipality of Piombino, a few kilometres from the sea of Baratti, San Vincenzo, Follonica and Scarlino. Situated in an area of great beauty as well as artistic-cultural interest with antique villages nearby such as Volterra, San Gimignano, Massa Marittima, Campiglia Marittima, Suvereto, Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, not to be missed historical places like Pisa and Siena, the Etruscan hot springs and the splendid Etruscan necropolis of Populonia.
The Gulf of Baratti is a small, (nearly) unspoiled stretch of the Etruscan Coast: a destination that shouldn’t be missed for all those who want to appreciate a part of Tuscany, where nature, history and art are combined, giving space for a timeless place. Stretching along the slopes of the promontory of Piombino, where once was standing the Etruscan and Roman town of Populonia, already in ancient times famous for the intense metallurgical activity that was connected with the production of iron. The access to the splendid beach that is softly dropping into the water of the gulf is passing through a dense pine wood, whose trees are bent by the wind and a huge meadow, the traditional place for picnic and relaxation whole year round. The sea is beautiful and for those who love snorkeling or diving, Baratti is a real treasure worth being discovered: the rich flora and fauna will make you forget the time.

A charming medieval village, defined as the Pearl of the Northern Maremma. Even today it is surrounded by the nearly intact town walls, crowned by eight watch towers. The historic center can be reached through the two town gates dating back to the 13th century, called Porta a Mare (the gate to the sea) and the other Porticciola (the small gate). The hilly position, right in front of Elba Island, about ten minutes from the beaches of the Etruscan Coast, make Suvereto the ideal place for that type of tourism searching for peace, excellent food and wine, traditions and folklore. Suvereto was inserted in the national circuits of wine town, olive town and “città slow”. The area comprises the Nature Reserve of Montioni, where one can find along the trails a rich flora and fauna.

It offers a natural landscape of extreme beauty, together with historic villages and cultural places that are nationwide unique. At 40 minutes by ferry from Piombino (1 h from Santa Trice), one reaches a natural jewel without rivals and you will be strucked by the nature, the beauty of the sea and the authenticity of the inhabitants. Every 30 minutes there are ferries connecting the island with the continent, thus it is possible to visit the island also for only one day.
